Project Rationale:
Attraction of freight from road to railway system is a central strategy in national freight transportation, aiming to reduce fuel consumption, crashes, and road depreciation costs. In this study, a software is developed for trade department of Iranian railway company based on mathematical models including freight rate, travel time, and accessibility. This software provides a ground for analyzing effects of the proposed policies through manipulating independent variables of the system in the territory of Iran.
Description:
- Collecting development plans of industry and mining together with ministries and other organizations influencing total demand of the freight transportation
- Monitoring variations in the share of railway freight transportation market compared to the road transportation in different years
- Updating demand functions of railway freight transportation
- Forecasting market demand, and the future freight origin-destination matrix
- Developing a software to monitor the trade performance of the railway system, and preparing railway transportation market development plan
